USAV Cup: U.S. Men vs. Brazil

The U.S. Men will play against Brazil at this summer's USA Volleyball Cup.

Volleyball fans can relive the excitement of last summer’s Olympic Games when the U.S. Men’s National Team hosts Brazil for two USAV Cup international matches this August at the Sears Centre Arena.

The U.S. Men were the only team to beat Brazil at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. Brazil went on to win the gold while the United States took bronze. The teams are currently ranked the best in the world, with Brazil leading at No. 1 and the United States following at No. 2.

Among the U.S. players expected to compete are 2016 Olympic medalists Matt Anderson, Micah Christenson, Max Holt, Taylor Sander, Erik Shoji and Thomas Jaeschke, a native of Wheaton, IL, and a star at Loyola University of Chicago.

“Our matches with Brazil are always exciting,” U.S. Head Coach John Speraw said. “At that time of year, both teams should be playing some of their best volleyball heading into the FIVB Grand Champions Cup."

Sears Centre Arena is an 11,800-seat multi-purpose family entertainment, cultural and sports center. Seating capacity for the arena ranges from 3,000-6,000 for theater shows; 9,400 for football, hockey, lacrosse and soccer games; 10,000 for basketball games and 11,800 for concerts.
